Mini Archie’s December Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Archie The Wonder Dog

Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something

Hello and Merry Christmas! I can’t quite believe it’s the final Furtle of the year already, can you?

This month, to round off what has accidentally become a year of socks, I knitted yet more of them. I finished the pair I’d started last month:
Yarn is Opal Rainforest 17 (colour 11095 ‘Referee’)from Sock Yarn Shop

Made another pair:
Yarn is Opal Joy (colour 9984 ‘Cheers’)from Sock Yarn Shop

And another:
Yarn is Opal Schafpate (colour 7951 ‘Kim’) from Sock Yarn Shop

And another:
Yarn is Opal 25 Years of Opal (colour 11047 Dancing Jubilee)

And I’ve quilted three lines on ET (no picture, it looks just the same as it did last month unless you’re close enough (and care enough) to count the quilted lines), but now this year’s socks are finished, I’m going to not cast on any more   try very hard not to cast on any more  try not to cast on any more socks until ET is finished.

I was looking back through this year’s blog posts (to count the socks made) and it’s noticeable that the sock knitting only took off once I’d finished piecing the low volume scrappy trip top and I was without a hand piecing project for the evenings. I didn’t get any further in my Sticky Prod Along aim to quilt Winterkist other than washing the fleece backing thirteen times (yes, that’s how many washes it took to get rid of the loose dye!) and coming up with a plan for the back and quilting as ET wasn’t as quick to quilt as expected. Once ET is quilted, I’m going to make Winterkist my main machine project and I’m going to start a new hand piecing project (yes, I have permission!). I think I need to revive/pay more attention to my Fettling List as, disgracefully, I haven’t finished any of those yet. Oh dear, it’s no wonder Mini Archie keeps tutting, is it? Still, at least I have warm feet…

You doesn’t have time to be admiring I in Tree, you has sewing to do. Chip chop!

Linking up to the December Furtle

If you're linking up, please add a link (one per person, please) to your blog post, which could contain: a mosaic of all you've made in the month, something you've made/started/worked on, a goal which you'd like to achieve in the next month (and then in next month's post you can reflect on that goal and set yourself another one - I find this particularly handy if I'm in the midst of a big project and finding the making of hundreds of blocks to be interminable), anything crafty you'd like to share. This isn't just for sewing or quilting, but is for all crafts so if you knit, make lace, make clothes, do anything which could come under the heading of 'craft', then please link up. Please visit the link immediately before and after you and leave an encouraging comment, and more if you can manage it - we all know that comments create joy, so let's spread some around. Also, please treat all the linked posts and their authors with respect - I want this to be an inclusive space for all crafters and crafts and all are welcome. If you're not sure if you're welcome or you belong, you do - this is by no means a closed space and if you want to join, then you are most welcome. If you need help linking up, please leave a comment and I will do my best to help. Please add the Furtling button to your blog post: copy the code below and paste it into your blog post - it should then magically appear when you publish your blog post (I'll do my best to help if you have any problems) and it will help people find the Furtling page with all the details of the link up.

To link up, go to the link at the bottom of this page and click on 'link up' (it's a blue button) and then add your link (website URL), a title (this could be your blog name but could also be something interesting to draw people to it (keep it clean!) if you prefer), and your email. This last one doesn't appear on the link (I will have access to it - I won't use it unless there's a problem and I need to contact you) so don't worry that you're about to share your email address with the world (or the handful of people who find this link), you're not! The link will remain open until 17th January; if you're seeing this post after this date, I'm afraid you can't link up to the December Furtle, but you can link next month if you like.

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  1. Happy new year! You must be able to knit socks with your eyes closed now! I'm amazed by the number you've made and the variety of patterns. Well done.

    1. Thank you! I love knitting socks, I’m going to have to quilt ET as fast as I can so I can cast in another pair - someone has hidden my knitting bag and won’t let me have it back! Thank you for being such a good supporter of the link ups, it’s lovely to have a definite reason and deadline to blog, I find, but it would be much less fun alone! Happy New Year!

    2. Oh no! Hidden knitting bag is NO JOKE!!! Wishing you nimble fingers and lots of ET quilting inspiration. I do love our supportive groups and very much appreciate your attention and encouragement.

    3. I agree, but he has decided it’s for the best and I get no say. I am, however, really enjoying the hand quilting (even through Warm&White, definitely not the nicest wadding to hand quilt through) so I’ll hopefully be reunited with my knitting bag before too long. I’m not enjoying the marking of the lines, though (mainly because seeing the previous lines through the ruler in order to line up for the next set of lines is fairly impossible. I quite like whizzing along with the chalk wheel so that’s something.) I’m telling myself it’s better to not enjoy the marking but enjoy the quilting than the other way round…

    4. That's a very good point on enjoying the quilting more than the marking. Very wise choice. I can't wait to hear about your milestones progress. *rustling pompoms in anticipation of another corner done*

    5. I wouldn’t say I’m whizzing along but it’s definitely faster than I remembered from doing the first few lines. I think that’s partly because I was doing two lines at once but I’m now doing one line at a time - it means more moving of the hoop (relatively) but is actually easier due to the angled edges of the corners and it means I get to complete a line more often. So you may well need those corner pompoms for the next Furtle! Thanks for the encouragement x

    6. Oh, that's wonderful! I love it when changing something small makes progress go faster. Woo hoo! Keep going, dear friend!!!!
