Mini Archie's August Furtle Around The Blogosphere

 Archie The Wonder Dog

Hello! I hope you're well?

This month has been a hand piecing sort of month - it's amazing how much progress you can make on something when you actually get it out of the tin and work on it, isn't it?! I've finished the block I'd almost finished in the last post, which is the last of the July blocks:

And I've made my four blocks for August:

And on Saturday, I finished the first of the blocks for September (yes, while it's still August!!):

I've done little else (definitely no housework, although I am getting to grips with the new blogger interface (a new page a day plus a page which is updated daily will do that)), but I do have a date for the extraction of The Cupboard Of Doom (the cupboard in the sewing room which houses the stair bulkhead and which is just over a metre deep, a metre wide, and 5'4" high (the mixed measurement systems are because my sister-in-law can stand in the cupboard and her head touches the ceiling and I know how tall she is) and which has a 'bathroom' door to the front so that you have to go in it to access the top shelf or bend round the frame to access the side shelves; all of this makes for an unwieldy cupboard so it's being taken out and rebuilt with partitions to (hopefully) make it more useable and make better use of the storage space) and it will be leaving the house in early October - I think Mini Archie quite fancies holding it a farewell party *rolls eyes*

On a completely different note, it looks as though the Finish-Along isn't going to be running for this quarter (and perhaps not the next, either, although I have no news either way as I'm not involved in the running of it) so Budsmam and I were wondering whether you'd like the Furtle to act in its stead until the end of the year? We could Fettle Those Finishes (Mini Archie is quite keen on this name, guess who suggested it...) and cheer each other along, just as we do with our Furtling.  What do you think? Please say either way, there's no point otherwise! And if you think it's a good idea, please shout if you have any ideas about how you'd like it to work, although I may regret that appeal if everyone has a different idea.

As ever, Mini Archie has kept my nose to the grindstone:
What is you doing out here when you should be in there, sewing? Shoo!

Linking up to the August Furtle

If you're linking up, please add a link (one per person, please) to your blog post, which could contain: a mosaic of all you've made in the month, something you've made/started/worked on, a goal which you'd like to achieve in the next month (and then in next month's post you can reflect on that goal and set yourself another one - I find this particularly handy if I'm in the midst of a big project and finding the making of hundreds of blocks to be interminable), anything crafty you'd like to share. This isn't just for sewing or quilting, but is for all crafts so if you knit, make lace, make clothes, do anything which could come under the heading of 'craft', then please link up. Please visit the link immediately before and after you and leave an encouraging comment, and more if you can manage it - we all know that comments create joy, so let's spread some around. Also, please treat all the linked posts and their authors with respect - I want this to be an inclusive space for all crafters and crafts and all are welcome. If you're not sure if you're welcome or you belong, you do - this is by no means a closed space and if you want to join, then you are most welcome. If you need help linking up, please leave a comment and I will do my best to help. Please add the Furtling button to your blog post: copy the code below and paste it into your blog post - it should then magically appear when you publish your blog post (I'll do my best to help if you have any problems) and it will help people find the Furtling page with all the details of the link up.

To link up, go to the link at the bottom of this page and click on 'link up' (it's a blue button) and then add your link (website URL), a title (this could be your blog name but could also be something interesting to draw people to it (keep it clean!) if you prefer), and your email. This last one doesn't appear on the link (I will have access to it - I won't use it unless there's a problem and I need to contact you) so don't worry that you're about to share your email address with the world (or the handful of people who find this link), you're not! The link will remain open until 17th August; if you're seeing this post after this date, I'm afraid you can't link up to the August Furtle, but you can link next month if you like.

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  3. You've made great progress with your blocks, well done! I'm all for a substitute to the FAL, it's always great to feel accountable! Thanks to you and Sheila for the offer, not sure I have any valid ideas to how to run it though!

  4. Wow, LOVE the blocks!!! I even have some of the little mice fabric, it's from the Heather Ross' Trixie fabric line (yes, the one my Trixie is from). I would love a substitute FAL!!!! How about the old style with a Link-up at the beginning of the quarter for a post of all the proposed projects (I didn't like using IG for that). And then a Link-up party for finishes, but not so stringent. People could do one post for all finishes or separate posts for each finish. We could keep the prior dates: Q3 finishes from 30-Sept to 7-Oct, Q4 proposals 8-Oct to 18-Oct, and then Q4 finishes 31-Dec to 8-Jan-2021. Well, you could open the link-ups whenever you really want. Regardless of what you do, I will still keep the structure for my Ridiculously Long list of 120 projects, I AM NOT GIVING UP!!!! I stand by The Committee and want their support to clear my cupboards of planned projects and then be able to use the shelves to organize my fabric stash and for my own projects going forward. eHUGS!!!! You are so generous to host these for us. Tell MA, that you need time in the garden not just for his hiding games, but to sustain your creative juices with inspiration from Mother Nature while it's good. You deserve some time to recharge.

    1. Thank you! The mice fabric is gorgeous, isn’t it? Not quite as gorgeous as Trixie, obviously, but still gorgeous!

Yes, that’s what I was thinking - a list in the September furtle (whether in with the furtlings or an additional link up) and then finishes in the December furtle, again perhaps two link ups in that post, one for December furtlings and one for finishes? Obviously, there won’t be any prizes, but there should be plenty of cheering!

The Committee are thrilled by your commitment to fettling your list and are admiring of your determination. I’ve definitely found that placing some restrictions on my list (not adding more than I’ve finished the previous quarter) has definitely helped me reduce my list rather than it getting ever longer as I’ve really had to think about what I want to start next and what’s likely to hang around on my list rather than getting finished.

September is turning into a gardening month so I’m not sure how much sewing I’ll get done - I’m even more glad I did a September block in August now!!

  5. lovely that you got a few more blocks sewn in your epic hand made project - after just finishing the MATO quilt while I think we're crazy for doing such time consuming projects it really is a huge sense of achievement when they're done :) I've just slipped in under the radar and as I've set blog post goals I'm hoping I should be on time next month ! glad to hear you're getting better storage - it really does make life easier (says she who still lives out of boxes (eyeroll)) I'm in for FAL again - I'm feeling pumped with having a few long term finishes done lately so time to set some new goals ! kisses to MA xx
