Mini Archie's October Furtle Around The Blogosphere
Hello! How is it the end of October?! I mean, really, where does the time go?! This month I have been very diligent:
I finished the third and fourth pairs of socks from my Made By Penguins lucky dip. Here they all are together:
Another four LV blocks have been made:
A pair of socks in double knitting yarn (very quick to knit up) have been finished, albeit with a slight adjustment as this is all the yarn I had left after finishing knitting the second sock:
I don't care how good you are at Kitchener stitch, that is not enough yarn to do it! (There was a grand total of 13" left from the fist ball - one length of 8" and one of 5") |
After doing a bit of pondering, I decided to pull back the final 'knit to the end of the third needle' round and the last needle of the previous round (so one whole round just not, technically, the same round!) and that left me with enough yarn to graft the toe closed:
They don't match because, as you've seen, there wasn't enough yarn! |
This is item 18 on my Q4 FAL list and I will be linking up when the time comes.
The other thing I've been working on this month, and you might need to sit down for this news, is a long-term resident on my FAL list:
(Those of you with very (very) long memories will already know this!) These are going to become the alternate blocks between the embroidered Summersville blocks (must get back to writing and typing up those remaining block stories...) and will be, after a quite a bit of pressing and lots more sewing, nine patches. This quilt will make it off the list! At some point...
Well that's me done for the month, how did you get on?
Mini Archie got a wonderful parcel this week after apparently placing an order with his chum Pearl Mouse on instagram who assists the very talented Jackie of Brownshandmade:
It's Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiistmas!!! *does a jig* *stops* What does you mean, not yet?!! *tuts* |
Linking up to the October Furtle
If you're linking up, please add a link (one per person, please) to your blog post, which could contain: a mosaic of all you've made in the month, something you've made/started/worked on, a goal which you'd like to achieve in the next month (and then in next month's post you can reflect on that goal and set yourself another one - I find this particularly handy if I'm in the midst of a big project and finding the making of hundreds of blocks to be interminable), anything crafty you'd like to share. This isn't just for sewing or quilting, but is for all crafts so if you knit, make lace, make clothes, do anything which could come under the heading of 'craft', then please link up. Please visit the link immediately before and after you and leave an encouraging comment, and more if you can manage it - we all know that comments create joy, so let's spread some around. Also, please treat all the linked posts and their authors with respect - I want this to be an inclusive space for all crafters and crafts and all are welcome. If you're not sure if you're welcome or you belong, you do - this is by no means a closed space and if you want to join, then you are most welcome. If you need help linking up, please leave a comment and I will do my best to help. Please add the Furtling button to your blog post: copy the code below and paste it into your blog post - it should then magically appear when you publish your blog post (I'll do my best to help if you have any problems) and it will help people find the Furtling page with all the details of the link up.
<p style="text-align:center"><a href="https://archiethewonderdog.blogspot.com/p/furtling.html"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTXDD7-BYr5nXJtGn7HIFUcDUZfLGBTpazWKP8TCUWdkA6zd2285lbJX4aoMug6QyKDdxtxA-njWnhvf0GugU-An4z5lTFcqmYnae0Gb68FR0ZmydWYETGSa2oF1NeQDMVNwZBnUHTpsD7/s200/textgram_1548790799.png" alt="Archie The Wonder Dog" /></a></p>
To link up, go to the link at the bottom of this page and click on 'link up' (it's a blue button) and then add your link (website URL), a title (this could be your blog name but could also be something interesting to draw people to it (keep it clean!) if you prefer), and your email. This last one doesn't appear on the link (I will have access to it - I won't use it unless there's a problem and I need to contact you) so don't worry that you're about to share your email address with the world (or the handful of people who find this link), you're not! The link will remain open until 10th November; if you're seeing this post after this date, I'm afraid you can't link up to the October Furtle, but you can link next month if you like.
Oh bravo!! You have been most industrious indeed! *claps hands enthusiastically* *pokes Kermit* Yaaaay! *Kermit flail*
ReplyDeleteI *love* those socks, and would love to go back to sock knitting but I have glittens to finish (those fingerless gloves that have an extra mitten top you can flip off and on as reqd?) and a hat to knit, well, 2 hats really, but...
Your 4 LV blocks are all so varied--it's going to be a wonderful quilt, I can tell!
Ooooo--the pez prints!! Can it be true?? ;-) Magnifico!
MIni Archie's decorations are splendiferous. I'm wonderng how long the real biccies would last if I tied some onto my (fake) Fir wreath. And if the Mr would get me Sectioned if i did... (Hmm, does he know about Sectioning under the MH Act?)
I have my post ready to go, once I add MA's linkie. :D xx
I love how festive Mini Archie looks - he must really love Christmas! Love your socks too. Its so easy to think that given the amount left with 4 ply sock yarn after knitting a pair of socks that DK yarn would be able to yield a pair easily but just with a little less to spare you've shown how much less there actually is! I've done DK once but it was a solid colour rather than self striping but the upside is they are quick to knit!
ReplyDeleteSuper productive!! All those socks 😍 I'm surprised mini Archie isn't dressed for Halloween - or maybe he is! 😀
ReplyDeleteYour socks are fabulous! as are you xxx
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are so wonderfully pieced. love those socks, they are so soft and pretty! Little Archie looks very festive, but he is a bit early, no? :)

Beautiful socks and well done for managing to finish without enough yard. You'll get this quilt finish in no time now!
ReplyDeleteYour socks are so attractive. What a great job! *waves pompoms* Great job on the LV blocks and progress on the Summersville alternate blocks!!! Woo hoo!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYou are a sock making machine! Well done on such a productive month. I am really looking forward to seeing progress on your Summersville quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased you managed to sort out the toe of that naughty sock - good thinking! It worked really well too, and just adds to the uniqueness of the pair. And I'm intrigued by your Summersville quilt; that sounds very interesting so good luck. And all those lovely LV blocks - so many seams to join but so satisfying. They look great. MA looks suitably chuffed with his Christmas gifts; we just hope he doesn't burn himself out too early! 🤣🤣🤣 Happy November xxx
ReplyDeleteKnitting with bated breath is less fun than when you absolutely know you have enough yarn, but dk socks knit up so quickly that my breath wasn't bated for long!
DeleteI've made Mini Archie put away all the Christmas stuff until it's December...
