Finish-Along Q4 2018
1. (Q3 2015) I'm making a low-volume and turquoise version of a scrappy trip around the world quilt. Although I won't finish this quilt this quarter, I'd like to start the piecing! (I said that last quarter. And the one before. I haven't started the piecing...)
3. (Q4 2015) This was going to become a table runner, but I've changed my mind and it's now going to become a Bloem Basket (pattern by Johanna Weidner, find it on Craftsy Bloem Basket Pattern)
4. (Q1 2015) Oh, this poor quilt! It's been on several of my FAL lists and was, briefly, a finish. Then I realised that there was a problem with the quilting (the bobbin thread keeps snapping) and I've been meaning to replace the quilting. I've done one line (with different stitch length and tension from the first time) but, I'll be honest, it's mind-numbing work. I'm going to change my plan slightly and replace the lines where threads have snapped and then leave the rest but quilt in the ditch of all the sashing strips. That should be enough to stop the bias stretch on the quilt, which, I think, is exacerbating the problem with the quilting. If it doesn't, I might quilt in the ditch round the grey block borders. I have to be careful not to add too much quilting as it's already bound but I'm hoping I'll get away with it...
5. (Q1 2016) These are the last remnants of the grey and yellow fabric that Mam bought to make her sewing machine cover and I'm hoping to cobble something together to use them all up. Two pieces have wadding fused to the back (the result of a miscalculation) and I'm planning to make a storage basket/pouch with these last oddly-sized bits.
6. (Q1 2016) At the end of last year, Hadley had a 'win my WIP' giveaway in order to
7. (Q2 2016) I have been planning this quilt since at least 2013 and would like to at least make a start on prepping blocks. (I've been saying that for a while...) I have a range of backgrounds and some gorgeous Oakshott (Scandinavian, I think). The block pattern is in the photo and I've already completed a test block.
8. (Q2 2016) This needs layering and pinning ready for quilting, once I've bought the wadding and decided on how I'm going to quilt it. I doubt I'll make progress on this for quite a while, but once a project is on my FAL list, it stays on until it's either finished or officially abandoned! (No, they're not two different colours of background, it's just the difference between pieced/unpieced and straight/bias - you don't see it in real life.)
9. (Q3 2016) I need to turn this piece of embroidered ticking into a pouch (with detachable strap) for my ipod.
10: (Q4 2016) I'm going to turn this pink pin cord into a round neck pinafore version of the Kate dress:
11. (Q4 2016) This black and white lawn is going to be a Kate dress
12. (Q4 2016) This rather 80s winter sports print (it really could be from then as it came out of someone's loft!) is going to become a version of the Kate dress, possibly with a v neck and long/elbow length sleeves.
13. (Q4 2016) I started these jama bottoms in 2013 - they're made from an old quilt cover.
14. (Q4 2016) I'm going to make another pair of jama bottoms from this rather snazzy fabric, which I think my mam bought my brother in the early 90s when he made himself a few cushions for his room.
15 and 16. (Q2 2017) The middle fabric in this pile is going to become my second Everyday Blouse, and the top fabric is going to become a Kate dress:
17. (Started around October 2012) This is another project that I won't get finished this quarter (or next!), but I want it back on my list. Next step is to cut the pieces for the nine patches which will alternate with the embroidered blocks. (I may even finish writing the stories behind the blocks, you never know!)
18. (Q2 2017) I want to make a Christmas quilt (yes, another one!) from these pieces of Winterkist. I'm going to make a version of Sarah's Stained quilt, with navy sashing (thanks, Salley!):
19. (Q2 2017) This Italian lawn is going to become a top version of the Kate dress:
20. (Q4 2017) The pinafore I made last year needs a lining (it needs a slip under it, but the armholes are too low for the slips I have, so a lining it is):
21. (Q2 2018) I've cut out the pieces to make a short-sleeved Lark tee:
22. (Q2 2018) Mam has asked me to make her a bag like the one I finished for me last quarter. She went to the same workshop and got even less done than me!
29. (Q4 2018) A neighbour's daughter is expecting her first baby so I'm knitting a blanket for it. The pattern is Umaro by Jared Flood Brooklyn Tweed, but I'm knitting it in an aran-weight yarn to make it a better size and weight for a new born.
30. (Q4 2018) Another drawstring pouch:
31. (Q4 2018) A Lola pouch:
32. (Q4 2018) And my 2018 Christmas project for the Christmas-Cushion-Or-Whatever-You-Fancy-Along 2018
33. (Q4 2018) Jen (Mum In The Mad House) and I are making jeans together and we are having our hands held by a very talented friend of ours, without who we wouldn't be doing this! I've traced and altered the pattern as far as I'm able without a first fit and am waiting for my fabric to arrive. No photo because there has been a delay with the order (they didn't have enough of Jen's denim but I didn't receive their email about it so spent over a week waiting for the dispatch email), but I'm expecting it any day now and will take a photo as soon as it arrives.
Look! My list is shorter than it was last quarter! Again! Hooray!!! (Only by two, but that counts!) Although I have retained my membership of the #ridiculouslylongFALlist gang, which is nice...
Am exhausted reading your list. Off to see what a Kate dress is
ReplyDeleteI usually have that reaction, too, which is why I tend to skim read it ;o) Just in case you haveb't found it, here's a link to the Kate dress: https://sewmesomething.co.uk/collections/patterns/products/kate-printed-pattern
DeleteOh, I love your list!!! It is wonderfully ridiculously long. <3 <3 <3 Great that you have MA with sticks to keep you on track. I'm thinking I may have to put a new friend on next quarter to have someone to 'poke' me too. Hope we get to see the tablecloth as bag. It's going to be gorgeous! And I'm sure your mom will be so pleased to have your help finishing the bag. Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased that, although still ridiculously long, it is (slowly) getting shorter! Unfortunately, I don't seem to be making much progress with the long-standing big projects as the little ones get in the way! One of these quarters I'm going to be left with a ridiculous list that's all big things...
DeleteWow! What an ambitious and varied list! On behalf of the entire crew, thanks for participating in 2018 Finish-A-Long. Good luck completing your projects!
