Mini Archie’s February Furtle Around The Blogosphere
Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something
I decided to get the LV scrappy trip top out for a look to assess what to do to make it smaller. As a reminder (because it’s been so long since it was in an actual post), it currently looks like this:
It’s too big (and I suspect will be too heavy for me once it’s got wadding and backing added) so needs to be made smaller. My plan was that I’d remove some of the outer rows and end blocks as I did with the Winterkist quilt last month and also swap some fabric from remaining blocks that I no longer like. (In truth, I wasn’t that struck when I was making the blocks so have no idea why I didn’t just not use them *rolls eyes at past me*)
When I got it out to see what would look best (I’ve been scribbling on a screen up until now), I realised that rather than removing rows and end blocks, the same result could be obtained by simply removing half the top. Unfortunately, in person this option (4 x 6 blocks) doesn’t look as good as it does on the screen and the design loses impact:
A third option (which has just occurred to me) is to do that but also change the solids as I’ve been looking for something pink for my bedroom (which has been redecorated since I started this top (what hasn’t been? They’ve rebuilt Notre Dame in that time) and I think a top like this but with pink could be it.
The fourth (and final) option (which occurred to me as I was typing the previous option) is to keep this one in the cupboard indefinitely and start all over again with 1.5” (finished) squares, pink solids and only white (ie no cream/quite off white) LV fabrics? Actually, that might be the most sensible option of the lot and it’s not like me to be advocating for me to start another project! *wonders what my life has become* *questions what is real* I’ll need to get the kona colour card out of the destash box, won’t I?!
I hope your February has been more- decisive!

| I finks I needs a new quilt too. Also like this but smallerer *expectant face* |
If you're linking up, please add a link (one per person, please) to your blog post, which could contain: a mosaic of all you've made in the month, something you've made/started/worked on, a goal which you'd like to achieve in the next month (and then in next month's post you can reflect on that goal and set yourself another one - I find this particularly handy if I'm in the midst of a big project and finding the making of hundreds of blocks to be interminable), anything crafty you'd like to share. This isn't just for sewing or quilting, but is for all crafts so if you knit, make lace, make clothes, do anything which could come under the heading of 'craft', then please link up. Please visit the link immediately before and after you and leave an encouraging comment, and more if you can manage it - we all know that comments create joy, so let's spread some around. Also, please treat all the linked posts and their authors with respect - I want this to be an inclusive space for all crafters and crafts and all are welcome. If you're not sure if you're welcome or you belong, you do - this is by no means a closed space and if you want to join, then you are most welcome. If you need help linking up, please leave a comment and I will do my best to help. Please add the Furtling button to your blog post: copy the code below and paste it into your blog post - it should then magically appear when you publish your blog post (I'll do my best to help if you have any problems) and it will help people find the Furtling page with all the details of the link up.
<p style="text-align:center"><a href="https://archiethewonderdog.blogspot.com/p/furtling.html"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTXDD7-BYr5nXJtGn7HIFUcDUZfLGBTpazWKP8TCUWdkA6zd2285lbJX4aoMug6QyKDdxtxA-njWnhvf0GugU-An4z5lTFcqmYnae0Gb68FR0ZmydWYETGSa2oF1NeQDMVNwZBnUHTpsD7/s200/textgram_1548790799.png" alt="Archie The Wonder Dog" /></a></p>
To link up, go to the link at the bottom of this page and click on 'link up' (it's a blue button) and then add your link (website URL), a title (this could be your blog name but could also be something interesting to draw people to it (keep it clean!) if you prefer), and your email. This last one doesn't appear on the link (I will have access to it - I won't use it unless there's a problem and I need to contact you) so don't worry that you're about to share your email address with the world (or the handful of people who find this link), you're not! The link will remain open until 10th March; if you're seeing this post after this date, I'm afraid you can't link up to the February Furtle, but you can link next month if you like.

Oh my goodness so many decisions! But it is a lovely top!
ReplyDeleteOoo-- I remember you making this one too (in fact, I *almost* sent you a cream FQ that had tiny dog heads printed on; I saw Archie in it )
ReplyDeleteReading through the options, it sounds as if you're leaning towards a smaller tiling remake in pink/white. I can get behind that; of course you want something you're thrilled with on your bed. Thinking out loud in a blog post like this can be very clarifying when you're not clear on what to do. x

Wishing for clarity to wrap around you and have a good snuggle in so you feel good. Thank you for hosting the furtle!
