Fettle Those Finishes! End Of Year Reports

It’s that time again so let’s see what I’ve managed to do with this year’s Fettling List. Here’s my progress report from July when my Fettling Points total was five.

First up is not a finish but it is good progress with the Toglet theatre and it now “just” needs a back, fixings and putting on the wall:

Read about it here

I finished off the pair of socks for a friend that I didn’t quite get finished last year:

Fettling Points = 1

2025 was the year of “socks for me” and I knitted twelve pairs:

Almost managed to remember to take the photos in a consistent format this year too!
Next year I might manage that and having them all facing the same way.

At the start of the year, I had 74 socks in waiting in the sock lucky dip and I’m pleased to say that I now have a mere 49. Yes, it’s still an awful lot but it’s down by almost a third and the number now starts with a four rather than a seven! Twelve have been taken out and made into socks, twelve scrappy sets have either been taken out and added to the destash box (which was mainly driven by the decision to let go of all my commercial yarn leftovers and just keep the indie dyed ones) or have been absorbed into other leftovers to create better scrappy sock kits.
There’s a lot of yarn there, more than it looks. I should have weighed it before I put
it in the destash box, shouldn’t I?!
Fettling Points = 13

I’ve sorted every shelf and every container on every shelf in The Cupboard Of Possibilities and reorganised some of them to both make better use of the space and because now there’s more room things can be where they need to be rather than where they fit:
Read about it here
Fettling Points = 19

And I also sorted a new map and key in a much better (and posher) system than before:

Fettling Points = 20

And finally, I’ve re felted the Advent trees:
Fettling Points = 21

This means I’ve scored almost double last year’s total (12), and twenty-one Fettling Points is my second-highest total since we started so well done me!

I’m looking forward to reading your reports; the link will remain open until 11pm on 31st January so there’s plenty of time for you to assemble your evidence and write your report. You don’t have to award yourself Fettling Points if you don’t want to but, if you do, it’s up to you how you award them. I award myself one point for each finish (each shelf in The Cupboard Of Possibilities counted as a separate finish because they’re over a metre square and well laden!) but that’s just a me rule, although it does help me think about what I’m adding to the list and to be more specific about what each project will involve. Again, you can work your points (and list) however you want so if you want multiple points for a convoluted and complex project to act as a difficulty rating/incentive to finally get something finished, that’s fine.

The post for Fettle Those Finishes! 2026 will be up tomorrow but the link won’t open until 11pm (GMT) on 10th January when there’ll be a quick post to announce it. It will remain open until 28th February so there’s plenty of time for you to assemble your list/copy and paste last year’s list!

Thank you very much for joining in this year, it’s been fun to have some company!

Well you getted these finished in the nick of time but it taked you free monfs and seventeen
days to knit one pair of socks: we will not be having that carry on next year *firm face*
