Mini Archie’s April Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something Hello! I’ve made some progress on my socks since last I furtled, I’m a way off a finished pair of socks, but I’m just glad I can do some knitting some days, even if it is only for a few minutes each time. My elbow and shoulder are still sore, but I think my elbow is a bit better than it was, which is nice. After putting up with watching telly and only watching telly (that’s harder than you think - what do other people do while watching telly if they don’t sew or knit? Eat sweets?!), I decided to see if I could do some pinning so fetched the Summersville blocks down and over about a fortnight, I pinned them in sets of three. Then, over the next week and a bit, I (machine) sewed the seams - I can only do four (that’s seams, not rows) before I have to stop, but all progress is welcome and I now have lots of seams to press. I suspect that will have to be done a (very) little at a time, too, so I’ll set the ironing boa...

Mini Archie’s December Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something Hello! Where did December go?! Honestly, one minute it was all ahead of me, the next it's behind and it's time to write my final furtle post of the year. Let me show you what I managed this month: I hand pieced the final four blocks for my LV scrappy trip quilt: It feels like a while since a backside picture, so here's the final block: I also machine pieced the rest of the tomte blocks: The note says 'Mind my ear!' And then spent what felt like hours finding an arrangement which works: And got the blocks joined into rows: I've decided that I'm not going to have sashing round the edges (I'll bind it in the navy so the binding will look like the sashing does here) so I have a bit of unpicking to do before I can join the rows to either side of the sashing strips - just the strips either end of each row, fortunately, so it won't take long. Once I'd finished all the scrappy trip blo...

Mini Archie's November Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something Hello! November has turned out to be quite a productive month, which is a good job as I'd fallen a bit behind in October with my scrappy trip blocks. I finished off the last block from October (it did get finished while it was still October, but not in time to take its picture for the Furtle): Once that was done, I decided to prep the final eight blocks for the top rather than just the four for November while I was in the mood for stamping and had something to watch on telly: And I've made the four blocks for November: But, as you can see, none of them have taken themselves to the iron.  In fact, the three blocks from the last post haven't done so, either.  I may as well wait until I've pieced the final four blocks and press twelve at once. Won't that be fun?! I'm well on the way with the first December block and am hoping to have that finished in the next day or two, depending on how long it ...

Mini Archie's January Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Hello!  Happy New Year!  2020.  Can you believe it?!! This month, I've made a good start on the grand sort out and tidy up of my sewing room which is my focus for the year and I've been through all my fiction books and weeded out the NotWanteds (44 of them) and rehomed them in a local charity shop.  The books which are staying have been catalogued using a web app called Libib  and will, at some point, be sorted alphabetically by author (at the moment, they're organised by author but in a random fashion depending on what I can fit on each shelf).  I've weeded ALL my scrap boxes and rehomed the NotWanteds to various quilty chums around the country.  I've been through the two boxes of destash stuff I'd accumulated since my last destash and rehomed many of the items with more chums around the country (and one chum in Australia!) and have a plan for the remaining items.  Feel free to have a look at my destash account  and see if you would li...
