Mini Archie's December Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Image
Hello!  Welcome to the December Furtle, which is also acting as (if you wish and only if you wish) a 2019 Round Up Furtle - a dual purpose Furtle, if you like. This month has been an odd one for making, but let's see what I can pull out of the archives. (Is it just me who can't quite believe that the beginning of December was only 30 days ago? It feels more like it might have been 90 days ago but, at the same time, I don't know where December has gone...) I've already blogged about the  penguin hot water bottle cover and two rope baskets (haven't quite managed the third one of those I was hoping, but there's still time left in the quarter, even if there isn't time left in the year!) I've made this month (which feels like it happened last month, at the very least), but I made a last-minute Christmas present for my niece: I bought the fabric from here , the zip from my usual place , and used a combination of this tutorial for straight-si...

Mini Archie's June Furtle Around The Blogosphere

*rushes in* Sorry I'm late!  I clean forgot that yesterday was Saturday and that I needed to sort the Furtling post and link up ready for this morning.  Needless to say, I've had a stern talking to and received a very sharp prod  *rubs side* This month, I have ticked another two items off my Q2 FAL list  which is just as well as the end of the quarter is fast approaching (tomorrow, in fact) and up until now I'd only finished two things. On my list, I said I'd like to make two Lola pouches from an old coat of mine and a shirt from a charity shop and I hoped that they would both be the large version.  I didn't quite manage that as there wasn't enough fabric without piecing bits together (there were a lot of seams in that coat), but I did manage a large one: and a small one: And even eked out a small Bloem Basket  to become a travelling pouch for one of Mini Archie's chums, Mini Edward : Here they are all together: ...

Catching up...As Usual!

Hello!  I'd like to start by saying thank you very much for all the lovely comments you left on my previous post about Archie.  I'll be honest, I did intend replying individually to each and every one, but I just can't do it, so please consider this your reply.  Thank you xx I've finished quite a few things, both from my  Finish-Along lists  and not (oops!), and here's a sample: Mini Archie's hexy quilt Welly socks for Moo Socks for Sarah (Moo's mam) Socks for me A tunic ( Kate Dress ) for me A crocheted wreath, started before last Christmas and abandoned when it became clear it wouldn't be finished in time! A Fair Isle jumper for Mini Archie (my first ever Fair Isle and my first ever jumper, what a project to start with!) I finished my seaside embroidery (on my FAL since Q3 2015) and made it into a pouch A Lola pouch for a friend A Lola pouch for my sister-in-law Another wreath which...

Sunday Summary (And The First Finish Of Q4!)

Image
Hello! I did it!!!  I've actually kept my promise to myself that I would blog at the weekend!  I'm going to try to write a post on either a Saturday or Sunday to try and keep up with myself.  I found that doing the Summersville posts (yes, I'm still adding stories to the page - there are 21 up at the moment ) each Saturday or Sunday really helped so I'm going to try going back to that way of thinking.  Wish me luck! This week has been one of mainly hand quilting the blue and white quilt (or the blue and white bu**er as I think of it) and, as of last night, I've quilted 58 stars (out of 127): This is not star number 58, but as they all look the same (or I hope they do), I thought I'd share one which has my supervisor in! I've also started putting together my pinafore version of the Kate dress ( pattern by Sew Me Something , I've adapted it to be a pinafore).  I've made the pockets: Next time, I'm going to make a cardboard template of ...

Spot The (Paisley) Birdie!

In my quest to catch up with myself and my quarter three finishes, I'm now pretending it's the end of August... Another repeat visitor to my  Q3 FAL list  (although it's only been on since the start of this year, unlike many others on the list) was this panel which I started at an embroidery workshop based around the paisley shape and traditional patterns and which was designed on the go by yours truly: The embroidery was done on Irish linen with a fine lawn fusible interfacing on the back to provide some stability, and stitches used include split stitch, back stitch, chain stitch, French knots, trellis stitch, lazy daisy, long stitch, Turkey knots, and fly stitch - my embroidery stitches book came in very handy!  In addition, there are four (decreasing) layers of wadding behind the wings to create a slightly padded effect. The first decision was the zip colour: I went with purple in the end and then the lining fabric was chosen (I even remembered to cut...
