Mini Archie’s September Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something This month has been a bit of a rollercoaster for my new quilt project so this might be a long post. Or a short one, depending on what my fingers decide to type and whether the brain fog rolls out a bit. Let’s see, shall we?  First, some terrific news: there’s a UK shop selling (and making!) quilt stamps! Head to  ZiggyWigglesStamps  to see their stock - they even do custom stamps so if you don’t see what you need, maybe send a message and see if they can help? I’ve ordered some hexagons and am thrilled to say that they’re excellent quality and will definitely be ordering more stamps at some point. (Some have 3/8 “ seam allowance and some 1/4” so be sure to notice that if it will affect your plans.) Last month the project looked like this: And I was merrily going along and enjoying both the process and the progress when I got this far: Can you spot the bit which made me stop? It’s those two side-by-side ...

Mini Archie’s August Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something After a complete washout in July (and, let’s be honest, most of the year this far), August held quite a lot of progress (thanks to two courses of insomnia-inducing medication).  I knitted two pairs of socks: Yarn is Monster Mash Neon by  Botanical Yarn Yarn is Roseus by  Pixie Yarn And not only started stamping squares for my new quilt, as per my August (and July) mini objective:  But carried on stamping: And made a start with the piecing: This is how it looks today: Now my new ironing board cover has arrived, I can press the seams. Well, once I’ve decided which way they’re going, that is.  I’m keeping track of where I am on a map and this is where I’m up to: Mini objective for September:  Add more squares to the top Stamp and cut out more squares Maybe sort out remaining destash stuff and see how much I can send to new homes Someone is thrilled the project tin is now in use: You is goi...

Mini Archie’s January Furtle Around The Blogosphere

Furtle (v): to have a rummage or delve into the contents of something Hello, and welcome to the first Furtle of 2024! I’ve started the year off well and have finished two pairs of socks, both of which were started last year. The first were this pair: Yarn is West Yorkshire Spinners ‘Wood Pigeon’ (864) And then I circled back to this pair, which were started before the yarn for the pair above arrived, and finished them too: Yarn is by Olann   I’m making progress with the next sock. Believe it or not, there are two different pinks in that wide stripe but I think someone either forgot to add enough dye to the medium pink or added too much to the light pink as they’re nigh on the same. If you look very closely, you can just about see a hint of there being two stripes between the dark pink and the next white stripe rather than one broad medium pink stripe: Yarn is West Yorkshire Spinners ‘Pink Flamingo’ (845)   A couple of weeks ago, I was thrilled to discover that we in the U.K. c...

Quilt Stamps

Hello! Thank you very much to all who linked up to the January Furtling post - I had planned to pop on a few days later to write this post but then my router died and I've had to wait for a new one to be delivered. In my last post, I mentioned that I got a set of quilt stamps/patchwork stamps for Christmas and had a few enquiries about them so I thought I'd write a post explaining all about them and where to find them. I first saw these stamps on Instagram, on Annie's Patch Pix feed in August (she got hers at Festival of Quilts) and had quite a few chats to her about them while I dithered about which set to start off with and which ink pad(s) to buy.  In the end, I decided to get the large Le Moyne Star set because that included a 2" (finished) square and that was the size/shape I thought I'd get most use out of in the initial months - I have plans to sit and stamp my way through my scrap boxes, making postage stamp/nine patch/double nine patch/Irish Chain ...
